You may have noticed that my individual blog posts now contain ads at the top. Although Google doesn’t allow you to share your stats I can tell you that the CTR (click-through-rate) of my Adsense ads are 770% higher with these ads.
We’ve known that ads inside of text have always worked well. That’s not my tip (although it’s a very good tip if you didn’t already realize that). My first tip is that hyperlinks need to look clickable. You need the hyperlinks to stand out from the normal text.
Purple is the default color of URLs that you have already visited. When I see a purple hyperlink I always pay closer attention to it. Why? I think that I already visited that URL. Now I won’t click it if I don’t want to click it so we’re not tricking anybody. We are just trying to get over “Ad Blindness”. Ad Blindness is when people subconsciously ignore ads. We want them to “consciously” ignore them without annoying them.
Now it would be even better if we could make only one link Purple and make the other blue or black. I bet the CTR would increase even more.
Search Engines launch and go unused all of the time. So I thought the same thing about CUIL. Cuil bills themselves as being able to cache (index) websites more efficiently and cheaply than Google. In fact, Cuil is run by some former Google engineers.
I took another look when I actually saw Cuil on Google News.
Currently Cuil says that it has 121,617,892,992 pages in its index. I found the results to vary with Google but still be relevant. I initially used Google because they did not hand-alter their results. They do so now however and the result have been, well, not exactly what I was looking for.
Cuil’s site breaks the rules by having black background which is usually a big no-no for web design. The results are not linear like Googles. They show up in an easier to read format and include images. By default you get 3 columns but can set it to 2.
Cuil also suggest keywords in an easier way using tabs so you can narrow down your search more.
Lastly you can search categories related to your search.
While I don’t think this will be a Google killer, it will be a Google changer. Lately Google’s search results have been filled with clutter.
If Cuil wants to really take some Marketshare away from Google they are going to have to be more open than Google in the sameway Facebook is more open than MySpace.

What if I told you that you can get your website promoted at ShoeMoney.com for less than $7.00?
ShoeMoney.com gets tens of thousands of visitors a day. A week long ad on ShoeMoney.com costs $350.
Ready for the secret?
Open this SECRET LINK.
It’s a link to VistaPrint’s free T-Shirt page.
WTF Does that have to do with anything?
Well, every week ShoeMoney features a new T-Shirt for free T-Shirt Friday.
All that you need to do is pay the 7 bucks, upload your web site logo using that SECRET LINK, pay $6.36 and send the t-shirt to…
ShoeMoney Media Group, Inc.
2840 S 70 Street
Suite 7, #348
Lincoln, Ne 68506
It might take a little bit for Shoe (aka Jeremy) to get to your shirt. However, when you get featured and feel like paying it forward to me, I accept checks and PayPal.
Having won a second T-Shirt from ShoeMoney.com I asked for one for my girlfriend.
Here it is.
I just doubled my chances of winning a Macbook air.
I also got another Shoemoney T-shirt.
My comment was chosen at random again. There are current 18 entries and there should be 8 more coming. So I have a 2 in 26 chance (or 1 in 13) of getting myself a nice dandy Macbook air.
It’s not a question that is asked very often but, “How much is a cell phone subscriber worth?”.
The answer is. $2,045.46.
Verizon Wireless is going to pay $27 Billion for Alltel Wireless. This will add 13.2 million subscribers.
$27,000,000,000 / 13,200,000 = $2,045.46
Last year when AT&T bought Dobson, $2.8 billion got you 1.7 milliion subscribers for the cost of $1,647.06
$2,800,000,000 / 1,700,000 = $1,647.06
This means that in a year, as far as cell phone companies are concerned, you are worth 24% more than last year.
Personally, they can keep the money. I’ll just take a new iPhone with no service commitment.
I’m not sure how many of you out there got the invite to the beta invite to ShoeMoney Tools.
I just did and signed up.
This is not a free beta, but normally this costs $250/month.
Since I am beta testing it, the cost is only $99/month. However the price will never go up for me.
I’ll post more after I play around with it more.
If you want to add 1-3 comments on any photo on FavoritePart.com you’ll probably secure yourself a free backlink on every page for the next 2 weeks.… The “Top Commentators” section was just added.
These can be considered “No Nofollow” or “Dofollow” links.
FavoritePart.com gets hundreds of visits a day.… It shows no PageRank because I used to sell Text Link Ads on it.… It stopped selling them after the PR was removed.
In the SEO community you always hear of how to scam backlinks. Well, I’ve gotten 3 backlinks to my WordPress post in the last couple of days about Permalinks fail in WordPress.
While this was a huge blunder on WordPress’s plate and might be even bigger because they haven’t even fixed it yet, I came up with a simple workaround.
Because of this workaround, I’ve been helping other people out and they have been linking to the post.
Moral of the story?
Helping People = Backlinks
